| Ten ways you can fight for Al 1.) Volunteer for the Democratic party: Many people think supporting a political party means giving money, but money doesn't tell the DNC what your agenda is - - or who you want in the White House. Volunteer at least one hour a month. Research the party structure in your state to discover how your state platform is decided - - make Al Gore's agenda, the agenda that America voted for in 2000, your state party's platform. Run for office yourself as a Democrat - - take back our school boards and town governments from the Far Right.
2.) Vote in a Democratic Congress in 2002 and 2004: Having Al Gore in the White House will be meaningless if he has to spend eight years fighting the party that tried to impeach him and succeeded in denying him the White House via an outrageous act of partisan judicial activism. Flood the Congress with true Democrats who will vote to make Al's populist agenda the law of the land.
3.) Make your Democratic officials accountable to you: Many of the incumbent Democrats in Congress seem determined to treat the current administration as if that administration actually had a mandate from the American people. While we agree that a certain amount of cooperation is necessary for the Government to function and provide necessary services to American citizens, we at Al-Gore-2004.org feel very strongly that the Democratic Party should cooperate with the current administration only when absolutely necessary.
If you agree with our position, we urge you to keep informed about pending legislation and administrative appointments. Call, write, fax and visit (but don't email) your Representatives and Senators and let them know how you want them to vote.
If a Supreme Court position becomes vacant, demand that NO more Federalist Society members are allowed to join that court. Tell your Senators they should filibuster any extreme Right Wing Supreme Court nominees, rather than allowing the Republicans to confirm such an appointment by one vote. Let them know their job is on the line if they do not filibuster! We have all seen the results of a Supreme Court that puts partisan concerns before justice. In the opinion of Al-Gore-2004.org, there is nothing more important than stopping the corruption of the highest court in the land.
4.) Register ten new Al Gore voters: The end of the 2000 Presidential election left many of us stunned. But we cannot let ourselves loose faith - - that is what the other side so desperately wants. As Representative Jesse Jackson Jr. said on December 13th, 2000: "If there is a fire and water is poured on it, but it doesn't put out the fire, don't conclude that water doesn't put out fires. Conclude that it will take more water." After you register ten new Al Gore voters, find another ten new Al Gore voters and register them. Don't stop until everyone in America is registered to vote.
5.) Get 10 off-line Al Gore supporters to write into Al-Gore-2004.org and join: One of the few limitations of organizing via the Internet is not everyone has access to the Internet. And it's the people who most need Al's agenda who are the most likely to be off-line. Spread the word about Al-Gore-2004.org so that the Internet challenged can stand up and be counted as well.
6.) Stand up for Al Gore: When you see or hear a biased media report about Al Gore, write and call the media outlet in question, provide the facts and demand a retraction. When you write letters to the editor about current issues, tell them you support Al Gore in 2004. Call into talk radio shows and discuss your support for Al Gore, his record, and his positions on important issues. Visit online chat rooms and message boards and post your pro-Gore rants. Whenever somebody says anything negative about Al Gore, jump into the conversation and express your opinion. Be polite and calm, but don't let anybody spread disinformation about Al Gore in your presence. (Once you start doing this, you will discover many people who agree with you, but didn't have the knowledge or courage to speak up against "the conventional wisdom".)
7.) Become the media we wish to see in the world: Wear buttons and t-shirts showing your support for Al Gore in 2004. Decorate your car and home with pro-Gore signs and bumperstickers. Create a pro-Gore website and join the Al Gore in 2004 webring. Make a public access television show about political issues you care about. Create a pro-Gore newsletter or 'zine. Let us know about your efforts - - and we will let the rest of the Al-Gore-2004.org membership know about it!
8.) Form an Al Gore in 2004 club: Get a small group of like-minded individuals together to figure out other ways to promote Al's candidacy. Shatter the walls of isolation that the other side is trying build around us all. Let us know about your group and any projects you launch.
9.) Make a scene: If you are lucky enough to have Al visit your town, show up and show your support. Bring as many people as you can find to the event. Bring signs if they'll let you - - if not, chant "Gore in Four!" (or any other re-elect Gore slogan you like) when Al arrives. Let yourself go all through his visit: applaud and chant as much as you want! If you can't get into the event, meet him at the airport.
10.) Volunteer for an activist organization: Whether your deepest concerns are civil rights, the environment, campaign finance reform, securing voting rights or some other progressive issue, there are many activist organizations that need your help. These same organizations will eventually endorse a Presidential candidate for the 2004 election. And as a member, you can lobby them to endorse Al Gore.
