If you're anything like us at Al-Gore-2004.org, you've been stumped over what to get President Gore for the holidays. A new harmonica? Road maps for all the Super Tuesday states? A "Hey, Smirk Boy! Get out of my house!!” t-shirt? Then we remembered this quote:
"I think that the greatest problem (America faces today) is the fact that we need more meaning in our national life. We need more people to believe in this country and to believe in our ability as a people to make it what it's supposed to be. This country is what we make it and we have the power, because of our freedom, but there are a lot of people who kind of stay arms length from the political process, because, you know, it's "politics". And it is "politics", but we can change "politics" if we have enough people who are willing to push past the fear of disillusionment and disappointment and do what our Founders did and what each generation has done in really seizing the opportunity to make this country what it's supposed to be." President Gore, September 12, 2000.
We realize the best present we can all give President Gore is to take back our Democracy - - to make sure that Democrats win every future race by a landslide, starting with the vital 2002 elections.
Step One: Just The Facts
Stay informed about all the 2002 races:
Step Two: Keep The Momentum Building
Help your local Democratic party register new Democratic voters. According to the US Census Bureau over 75 million Americans aren't registered, and less than half of Americans 18 to 25 are registered to vote. If your local party doesn’t have an existing voter registration program, organize one! Click here for voter registration information for your state.
Step Three: Ask Not What Your Party Can Do For You...
The Religious Right took over the Republican party one School Board seat at a time. Don't let a single Republican run without opposition! Live the Yella Dawg Revolution - - run for office as a Democrat!
Step Four: Give President Gore A Blue Christmas
Write President Gore and tell him what you are doing to ensure a Democratic landslide in 2002. Tell him which campaigns you have volunteered for, and why you support those candidates. Tell him your experiences working with your city or county democratic party - - the bad as well as the good. Tell him what your political ambitions are - - in detail!
